Sparking an interest in youth to read classical literature is a difficult task as the writing can be hard to grasp and the stories might not engage their short attention spans.

Problem

Exposition seeks to increase interest in classical literature by collaborating with local libraries to create an interactive experience that rewards youth for their knowledge of classical literature.

Solution
Book Covers

Each month a new piece of literature will be highlighted, and each book will have their own redesigned cover. The purpose of the redesign is to appeal to younger audiences and unite the various pieces of literature under a more cohesive appearance.

The Around the World in 80 Days Wild Card experience features a mini game machine that operates like the Cyclone arcade game. Youth can swipe their library card each week to play to earn points. This mini game consists of a globe with the path Phileas Fogg takes marked in small lights. When the game begins, the path of lights will glow one at a time, and youth will need to press the red button when the light marking one of Phileas Fogg's stops glows. The better the timing, the more points the youth will earn.

Wild Card Experience

1. Purchase the Book

During the month the book is featured, purchases will contain a redemption code that earns points. This applies to both physical and digital copies.

3. Attend the Event

Every month there will be an event hosted by participating libraries that features the piece of literature. The youth that come will earn points and have the opportunity to play games, eat snacks, and engage in other content that will teach them about the literature in a fun way.

2. Answer Questions

Every week a new quiz will be posted on the app that corelates to a section of reading. Answer the questions correctly to earn points.

Each month there is a giveaway basket that includes a copy of the literature for that month, some candy, and more! There are four ways to earn points to compete to win the prize. At the end of the month, whoever has the most points wins the giveaway basket.

4. Wild Card

During the month, libraries will have a special continuous event going on that can help youth raise more points. Learn more about the wild card experience below.

Each cover design has a matching bookmark that will be handed out along with the pamphlet. The bookmarks all interact with books in a special way that connects to their individual stories.

Bookmark

The Around the World in 80 Days bookmark has Phileas Fogg seeking adventure as he sticks up out of the book.

During the month each cover is featured, participating libraries will offer handout pamphlets that contain information about the book and the author. The reverse side of the pamphlet features a mini poster of the redesigned book cover.

Book Covers

The Around the World in 80 Days cover features Phileas Fogg in a hot air balloon traveling over the globe. The image is framed by an hourglass to connect to the time restraint prevalent in the story. A location pin marks where London is, the place Phileas stared his journey and must return to in 80 days.
